Transforming daily routines into lifesaving diagnostics

A healthcare worker in protective gear administering a nasal swab test to a crying child, with a man holding the child

The Idea

COVID tests usually mean painful swabs and waiting for results. I wanted to imagine a diagnostic tool as simple and familiar as brushing your teeth.

A collection of sketches and illustrations of electric toothbrushes, toothbrush heads, and toothpaste containers in various stages of design.

The Creation

I sketched silhouettes that felt precise yet ordinary, then modeled prototypes to explore how the form could fit into a daily routine. The goal was to combine clinical reliability with the familiarity of a household object.

Collection of 3D-printed dental tools and a tray, with design sketches taped on the wall behind.

The Tools

I modeled the device in Fusion 360 and produced full-scale prototypes on a 3D printer. Iterating physically allowed me to refine proportions, test ergonomics, and compare variations quickly.

The Final Product

The project culminated in a full video, complete with motion graphics, to illustrate how the MicroSeq could fit into daily routines. It was presented at my graduation exhibition as a speculative look at what at-home healthcare might become.
