Groovy Al’s
2025
Summer
A bold Instagram post created for a neighborhood record store’s first sidewalk sale. Inspired by Al’s passion for vinyl, the design blends playful textures with clear, eye catching type.
The Idea
When Groovy Al opened a record store down the street, I stopped in and immediately felt the energy of the place. His passion for vinyl reminded me of how much music has always been part of my own life.
I offered to design a free ad for the store’s first sidewalk sale. The goal was to make something bold and approachable that captured the spirit of the shop.
The Creation
This was also my first time with a UV atlas. Atlas’ work like a sort of index of all the possible options, in this case I used it to randomize the labels on each record.
Each record I chose for this atlas I felt not only represented the store but my personal musical tastes as well with classics from Steely Dan to the Talking Heads.
The Tools
The piece came together in Blender with geometry nodes generating structure and a texture atlas to map album labels. Typography was then layered in to make the event details clear at a glance.
The final files were set up for Instagram but flexible enough to print as flyers. That made the design easy for the store to use and share however they needed.
The Final Product
The finished design went live on Instagram to promote the sidewalk sale. It balanced bold type with playful record textures and carried the same energy that made the store feel so inviting.
What started as a quick idea became a small collaboration with a local shop. The ad captured the excitement of the event and gave Groovy Al’s store a voice online.
