Discord X Rocket League
2025
Summer
A collaboration with Discord to create a Rocket League anniversary post featuring Wumpus. What started as a small fan edit grew into an official piece shared for the game’s ten year celebration.
The Idea
Discord approached me to create a Rocket League post featuring Wumpus, their mascot, as part of a celebration for the game’s community. For me it was an instant yes — I have been a Rocket League player for ten years and a long-time Discord user.
The opportunity tied together two things I had been part of for years. It all started when I made a small VFX edit of a Rocket League car that picked up attention on Reddit, which is how the Discord team first found my work.
The Creation
The Discord team wanted to explore two directions at the same time: one version that combined live action with VFX, and another built entirely in Blender. I developed both in parallel, testing out what would feel most natural for Wumpus in Rocket League.
There were many rounds of revisions, from poses to expressions, to find the right balance between playful and authentic. The back and forth was collaborative and pushed the project further than I could have taken it on my own.
The Tools
The workflow combined Ninja Ripper and Blender. Ninja Ripper allowed me to bring assets straight from Rocket League, while Blender gave me the space to animate, rig, and build the final scene.
Working with the actual in-game models kept everything authentic to Rocket League, while Blender opened the door to integrate Wumpus and shape the shot.
The Final Product
The work was published on Discord’s official Instagram as part of Rocket League’s ten year celebration. Seeing Wumpus on the field in a post viewed by the wider community was both surreal and rewarding.
What began as a small fan edit grew into an official piece tied to a milestone for a game I have played for a decade. It was a chance to contribute to the history of Rocket League in a way that connected my own passion with the larger community.
