What a Save!

Rocket League spills out of the screen and into my street

The Idea

After nearly a decade of playing Rocket League, I set out to capture the chaos of a perfect save in the real world. The concept was simple: film an ordinary walk down a driveway and collide it with the energy of the game.

The Creation

I filmed a clean plate on iPhone and tracked the shot in Blender, matching scale, light, and perspective. The Fennec was textured and composited with shadows, reflections, and motion blur. I added the Henry name tag and rebuilt the Rocket League chat system to match the game exactly.

The Tools

Blender handled camera tracking and rendering while After Effects brought the layers together. Photoshop was used for textures, and I built the UI elements from scratch to mirror Rocket League’s in-game style.

The Final Product

The result is a playful VFX clip that feels like Rocket League bursting off the screen. It struck a chord online and directly led to my commission for Discord’s ten year commemorative post.
